Does watching violence produce violence?
David Gauntlett believes that the media as a negative effect on us. I agree with this to some extent as the media does have an influence how people think but the people who act on what they see are usually young & impressionable people who don't know whats acceptable or not.Video games such as 'Grand Theft Auto' can promote violence as in the game you can beat up anyone in the street and get a reputation for it.This is a bit like the hyperdermic model as the media injects information into our brain we think things in a sensationalised way.So youngsters will think in their head to do the same. The amount of violence exposed in the media is alarming as in the past such absurdities wouldn't be allowed. You can argue that this generation has become 'desensitised' to the amount of violence as its always shown so the audience don't think nothing of it.Violence provides some form of entertainment. Film provide escapism and when people see someone getting murdered in a grotesque way the person might feel catharsis. The media creates moral panics such as terrorists as they are portrayed as dangerous and deadly.
