Obsession

Obsession is about a young girl who become the target of a mysterious boys'obsession' (anchorage with the film)with her.The Equilibrium is when she is portrayed as a happy cheerful student enjoying her life. The disequilibrium is when she realises she is being followed and wakes up tied to a chair with sellotape on her mouth. It goes against the New Equilibrium as the final scene is of the girl murdered on the floor. The girl is the main protagonist and the villain is the guy who wears a hoodie. The mysterious enigma is created by the suspense as in one scene she is in the dark with a light and gets pulled by this mysterious shadow behind her.The demographic would be D/E.The convention of a horror genre has a victim who will end up dying in the end and the killer usually still alive.

Who's Bad?

This is a comedy in which the protagonist is a geeky nerd who is a laughing stock and doesn't really fit in with anyone. The stereotype representation of the 'geek' is emulated with geeky looking glasses and big hair and trousers which are too high.Although he may be educated he isn't socially confident and cant get girls and gets bullied as he cant do anything right. The title is called 'Who's Bad?' because the geek tries to fit in by acting tough and in doing this he appears even stupider so its anchored. The convention of a comedy is followed through by having the bully, the girl who he wants but cant get and the people who pretend to be his friend but aren't really. They are called the false heroes. The demographic is D/E aimed at youths mainly due to it being set in school so there is familiarisation.

Do images of skinny models have an impact?

The media sensationalises that you have to be a certain size to look good and if you are over that you will get bad publicity. The hyperdermic model is that size zero is the new trend and celebrities have to be role models for people who look up to them such as teenagers. The tabloids put pressure on celebs to look good and if they are too big they complain and recently if you're to thin they complain. There is no pleasing them. The media creates a moral panic that size zero celebrities are setting bad examples for people and its unhealthy for them and decreases their life expectancy. If a obese person sees a image of a thin model they will want to aspire to be like them (Catharsis)not necessarily a size zero but the avg dress size of a woman in the UK is 14.However as the fascination with the weight is increasing people are becoming desensitised as its becoming more common fro people to be extremely thin. There will be some celebrities who will look at these images and create their own trend and be curvaceous.

Does watching violence produce violence?

David Gauntlett believes that the media as a negative effect on us. I agree with this to some extent as the media does have an influence how people think but the people who act on what they see are usually young & impressionable people who don't know whats acceptable or not.Video games such as 'Grand Theft Auto' can promote violence as in the game you can beat up anyone in the street and get a reputation for it.This is a bit like the hyperdermic model as the media injects information into our brain we think things in a sensationalised way.So youngsters will think in their head to do the same. The amount of violence exposed in the media is alarming as in the past such absurdities wouldn't be allowed. You can argue that this generation has become 'desensitised' to the amount of violence as its always shown so the audience don't think nothing of it.Violence provides some form of entertainment. Film provide escapism and when people see someone getting murdered in a grotesque way the person might feel catharsis. The media creates moral panics such as terrorists as they are portrayed as dangerous and deadly.

1930's and 1940's

In the 1940's a new type of crime thriller emerged more dark and cynical.Crime and gangster films are often highlight the life of crime of a crime victim(s).This genre usually has the conventions of large crowded cities, dark night clubs or streets with neon signs, money and weapons.Rivalry with other criminals in gangster films is often a significant plot characteristic.Often poor immigrant families, gangster characters fall prey to crime in the pursuit of wealth ,status and material possessions.

Also horror films became really popular in this era due to the success of films like Dracula and Frankenstein. The characters of Dracula,Frankenstein ,The Mummy and The Wolfman have been recycled again in movies to frighten us or to make us laugh.Either way these characters which emerged in the 1930-40s still remain the classic characters of horror films.

Hollyoaks

Hollyoaks is multi stranded which involves more than one narrative running parallel involving different characters and locations because of this reason there is no primary protagonist but the primary location where the scene is being shot is at the Loft since its being reopened.Calvin hires Mercedes and she clashes with Sasha.
The new equilibrium doesn't really count in soaps as they don't finish and continue from the next episode.Hollyoaks end with the credits then for the last few minutes shows what happens next to entice the viewer to watch the next episode. The enigma is when Sasha and Merecedes clash and the viewer expect a possible outbreak but the join forces in the end to make the night a success.
