Do images of skinny models have an impact?
The media sensationalises that you have to be a certain size to look good and if you are over that you will get bad publicity. The hyperdermic model is that size zero is the new trend and celebrities have to be role models for people who look up to them such as teenagers. The tabloids put pressure on celebs to look good and if they are too big they complain and recently if you're to thin they complain. There is no pleasing them. The media creates a moral panic that size zero celebrities are setting bad examples for people and its unhealthy for them and decreases their life expectancy. If a obese person sees a image of a thin model they will want to aspire to be like them (Catharsis)not necessarily a size zero but the avg dress size of a woman in the UK is 14.However as the fascination with the weight is increasing people are becoming desensitised as its becoming more common fro people to be extremely thin. There will be some celebrities who will look at these images and create their own trend and be curvaceous.
