Halloween 2
Low key lighting is used as the shadows are quite visible and in the background you can see a graveyard so this connotes a horror genre as the enigma code suggest death.Back lighting because the light is coming from behind this ambiguous character who is wearing a mask as a prop and holding a knife. The knife has quite a dark shadow and stands out amongst the light behind it.Matrix 2
This scene from the 'Matrix 2' has a grand setting which the staircase is destroyed and the protagonist is placed directly in the middle standing and the others are on the floor. This shows hes the most powerful person as hes left still standing. His body language is composed. The clothes worn by them are black and he is wearing glasses as props this shows the level of seriousness as hes is styled to be professional looking shown by blank expression on his face. This connotes an action genre. The colours used are primarily black and cream a contrast to make the characters stand out. The convention of a action genre is that there are fights and destruction.
Shes All That
'Shes All That' connotes that the film is about a girl who is like the perfect girl who has all the qualities that make her a good person which is why shes 'all that'.A medium close up is used to show the intimacy between the pair and you can see this through the girls facial expression as she is gazing lovingly into his eyes and is smiling. Her body language is affectionate connoting a romantic genre. The lighting is low key lighting and has the lights as props in the background to create a romantic atmosphere.Thursday, 12 November 2009
Final Destination 4
This scene shows the girls panic and worry as she is looking back distressed. The camera angle used is low angle shot to show the escalator going down and the girl is being pulled by her shoestring. The guy is looking like he is struggling to keep his grip on the girls hand due to his facial expression being scrunched up and his legs being spread out for support. Both characters body language look uncomfortable. The escalator is in the process of being destructed and their makeup is blood and the fire in the background makes the setting seem like a dangerous place so connotes a thriller/horror genre. the stereotype of a typical horror convention is subverted as usually horror films has someone trying to kill someone but this film they die form strange accidents. The Hot Chick
The title 'The Hot Chick' is conveyed through the girl inside the guys body so they are implying that the male is 'hot' as he has qualities of the female but looks like a guy. High key lighting is used to make it seem more realistic. The guy is placed in the middle as he is the main protagonist and he stands out due to his facial expression being different compared to the women around him pouting and looking seductive like a femme fatale wheras his expression is shocked/confused.Body language suggests they are typical girls and are posing in the bedroom. One girl is holding a brush as a prop and there is a teddy in the background.

*The makeup and clothes they are dressed in are 1st are police uniform and then they dress up as transvestites and have the blonde hair the fake boobs and dress quite girly and wear makeup.
*The way they girls act in the movie they are screaming and acting like they are feminine powerless girls. They follow the convention of the ‘girly girl’ and act innocent. They hold handbags as props.
*Their facial expression and body language seems uncomfortable as they are trying to disguise themselves as other people. They put on a fake falsetto accent.

Saw 6 Analysis
Analysis begins at 0:04 ends at 2:10
Cinematography
*Uses a range of camera shots to highlight the importance of key scenes like when its high angle so viewers can see the top of the carousel spinning and the scenes quickly cut to the next to build tension.
*Pans in to create pressure on the person who has to make the choice to who will survive.
*Tracking is used when the carousel is spinning to make the decision who to choose harder
*Low key lighting is used to create a dark atmosphere
*The music is dramatic and build ups and at the end it fades out and the title appears
Editing
*Uses fade and jump cut to next scene quite frequently to make it seem fast paced and build up the tension/montage
*Use flashes
Sound
*Music is parallel with scene
*Has Diegetic Sound: characters panic and dialogue
*Has Non -Diegetic Sound :dramatic music Jigsaws voice
Mise-en-scene
*The props used to signify a horror genre is a old carousel, some machines and a rusty looking fence separating the protagonist and the 6 characters.
*The atmosphere is stereotypically following horror conventions and has a dark lighting this is to make them feel like they are in atmosphere where they feel they are under pressure.
*The characters facial expressions are terrified and they are panicky. Their body language looks like they are in a helpless position and look worried.
*They are styled as ordinary people who are captured and tied to the carousel. There is blood in the scene when the mechanisms are prepared to kill them their makeup is made to look rough and bloody.
*Jigsaws voice on the tape sounds sinister and he is wearing a mask a convention which usually horror films have to hide the identity of the person behind it. And this is how we identify that the person is playing the role of the ‘villain’.

Bad Lieutenant-Arthouse
This Hollywood film starring Nicholas Cage called 'Bad Lieutenant' connotes that he is playing the character of a false hero and is actually a dirty cop and this is shown by the protagonists facial expression as he is smiling. This is also shown by the tagline 'Gangster. Thief'. To set the mise-en-scene a medium closeup is used to emphaise the size of the gun as it looks like the biggest thing in the picture and looks like its aimed at the person looking. The audience this would be aimed at would predominantly be males aged 20-35. The genre signifiedWednesday, 4 November 2009
Forest Gump
The film 'Forest Gump' creates the enigma code that maybe hes alone throughout his journey he embarks on as he has a suitcase with him and is sitting by himself waiting which are the props used.A long shot is used to highlight the fact he is alone and this makes it seem like hes all alone. The poster emphasises he fact that Tom Hanks stars in it and use him for familiarity and try to make the film seem important as a big star is in it. Forrest is the protagonist and is represented as one of life's loners. The caption at the top hints that there is something special about Forrest's life. The pychographic is resigned as Forrest seeks survival in his late phases of life. The demographic is a B/E as he goes through a lot since a child into adulthood. Its a hybrid genre of drama/romance/comedy because of this I'd say this has a large audience.Tuesday, 3 November 2009
Sin City
This is a action film as they have men in the central position suggesting their importance in the film. They are pictured with props of guns and this makes them lean towards the villain role as they are also wearing black the colour associated with evil. The title is large and red to draw attention and perhaps its red because it symbolises blood. The women are presented as sex objects becase of their clothes and facial expressions.A low angle shot is used to make Bruce Willis seem bigger and more dominant than the rest which is also why the women are in the background becase hes the main protagonist. The demograhic would be the B's and below and psychographics could be a suceedors because with the weapons they think they have control and reformer as the title is 'sin city' they may want to enjoy themselves and commit sins.Pirates Of The Caribean
This is Hollywood film is an adventure. The three images of the characters all have a direct mode of address. The stereotype of the pirate is reinforced with the classic looks of a bandanna, a beard and the weapon which is traditionally dominant within male characters. It has the names of the cast at the top in white text to promote the film. The demographics could be the C1/D and psychographics could be resigned and aspirers because pirates look for gold and want to be wealthy. The pirate fits the label as the villain ,the girl as the princess and the middle guy as the hero.
Million Dollar Baby
This Hollywood film uses black and white contrasting colours because it looks dramatic. The female protagonist has her back towards the audience and the other two males are foreshadowing in the background like some sort of mystery and perhaps she is hiding something. The enigma codes that the poster creates is surrounded by the title 'Million Dollar Baby' and there is money involved. The woman subverts the stereotype representation of the 'princess'. The demograhic is C1/D and the psychographic could be struggler as she looks like a strong woman who fights for what she believes in.The actors/actress are typecasted as they as they play roles which are appropriate for their age.
